Breakfast was good, coffee bar could definitely use a modern upgrade in that most people like higher quality, coffee ingredients and those who enjoy generally would prefer real half-and-half or cream for their coffee. Yes, you can say I’m a coffee snob. The pool and pool area were clean and lovely. Unfortunately, during a severe heat wave, they left the pool heater on in error. For peaks it’s a good value. Check-in is exceptionally easy. Loved all of the seating areas within screened porches. The only staff we met was kind and courteous."

"Love staying with the castle but this year other guests were very loud. A couple instances we were awakened as late as midnight and as early as 4AM buy other guests."

The highlights of our stay was our interaction with the innkeeper, Warner (he is a true gem) along with your talented breakfast cook. The only suggestion for a change would be to add a couple of comfortable chairs to relax and read in on rainy days. "

"The people who do not find this place at 5 stars are either unlucky or really critical. This place is what you expect a bed and breakfast to be. We stayed in the main building. It isn't a hotel. The rooms are all unique and the place is filled with antiques. The AC may not be the best but our room was plenty cool. The television didn't have a clear picture in our room but we weren't there to watch TV. There was a larger TV in the living area that had a roku if anyone had to see something. Breakfast at 8am was superb and Marta was kind and kept up with the crowd. Fresh baked fig cake was a treat one morning. There is now a code entry to the rooms as there is no staff there after a certain time of the day to handle check in. This worked seamlessly for us. We are aware that another couple had a little trouble getting into their room but it didn't take long for them to get in. Maybe they had the wrong number or didn't follow instruction. The place is a really big house and it feels like home. You can roam around as you like and enjoy the pictures and neat furniture. And the gardens and pool are beautiful. There's a view of the Marina. Ice machine off kitchen area with water. Don't miss out. This is a historic building and has a lot of character and history on Ocracoke. We stayed in Ginny's room. We picked it based on it's vicinity to the screen porch which we sat on quite frequently. It is one of the smaller rooms but still plenty of space."
