Ocracoke is a special place to those who call it home and those who visit. Its cultural richness and island traditions make it a place that people return to year after year for their vacation. There are plenty of activities on the island to keep everyone occupied, although they aren't on a waterslide or in a movie theater.

Visit the Ocracoke lighthouse, Civil War Marker, British Cemetery and Bedfordshire Monument, and the Ocracoke Preservation Museum to learn about some of Ocracoke's rich history. Enjoy a Ghost Walk with Philip Howard and hear some tales from yesteryear.

Water Activities
Water surrounds you on all sides here. You have to take a ferry from Cedar Island, Swan Quarter, or Hatteras to get here. Once here, you can enjoy time on the sand at the #1 beach in America for 2007, Ocracoke! In the Silver Lake, our harbor, you can rent jet-skis, rent kayaks, rent boats, go parasailing above the island, or charter boats for half and full day fishing trips to the Gulf Stream. Take dolphin watching and sunset cruises on schooners and other boats.

Land Activities
Ocracoke has long been known for its community of artists and artisans and each shop on Ocracoke showcases that talent. It has attracted and grown its own musicians who perform weekly concerts at Deepwater Theater. Enjoy live music at the bars and restaurants nightly in the summer season. Go take a peek at the Ocracoke ponies who once roamed the island wild, but are now penned at the northern end and cared for by the National Park Service.
