We have just had the departure of the last group of wedding guests for this season and I just want to give a shout out to all those couples and their families and guests. Weddings can be so stressful, as many of us know, but here on Ocracoke flexibility has to be on top of the list. All of these couples chose Ocracoke because they loved it so much. This may have brought a frown to those invited who said "Now where is this place? I really have to take a ferry? No Starbucks? "! Everyone was prepared for better or worse (excuse the pun)! Except for two extremely windy conditions, the weddings took place without any major problems. The Brides were gorgeous and the grooms equally handsome!
They know who they are so I will just use first names! There was Kim and Bruce in April, Margo & Howard in May, Kelly and Leighton in August, Rebecca & Landon in October, Kyra and John in October, and Kelly and Barrett in November. To them all we say Congratulations! Until we all meet again

Besides it being Halloween on Friday and being invaded by Pirates, we have to pay attention to our clocks????? I am sure that after having so much fun Friday and Saturday this would be the last thing on anyone's mind. We should be grateful for one thing though and that's the extra hour of sleep we get on that one night. Or it's an extra hour of having a good time! All in all, we're all looking forward to another great weekend at the Castle and on Ocracoke.

In this fast paced world of technology: There is Hardware, Software, Downloads, Uploads, E Mails, Face Book, Texting, Tweeting, I-Phones, I-Pads, Smart Phones, Laptops, and also at times Dumb Phones.
But just, sometimes, it's nice to receive a handwritten note or letter. What made me think of writing about this is another note left on my desk this morning. It was a note of thank you but also a list of books I may enjoy reading over the winter. This note was left by a family that visits us every fall. If they read this, they will know who I mean and how much it meant.

Although we don't want a winter like the last one, we are all feeling revived with the cooler, dryer temperatures here on Ocracoke. It has been a busy summer and a wonderful one that sped by like lightning. Our only major concern of the summer came in the form of an early hurricane named Arthur. We are all happy Arthur ran marathons and moved out of here as quickly as it did. Not to dampen the spirits of Ocracoke on the 4th of July, a mini impromptu parade came together on the spur of the moment and made light of the situation. We do miss those that were not able to come to celebrate the holiday with us, and look forward to seeing them next year.
