The Castle on Silver Lake was built over a long period of time during the 50s, 60s and 70s by Sam Jones of Norfolk, Virginia. Mr. Jones contributed greatly to the economy of Ocracoke, North Carolina, during these times and is considered by many to be a local legend. He is buried on Ocracoke Island with his favorite horse Ikey D at Springer's Point. Most of the original furnishings have long been auctioned off and are scattered all over Ocracoke Island and North Carolina.
The Castle sat vacant for nineteen years before two local businessmen and longtime friends bought it along with the house known as the Whittlers Club. Much thought was put into what was to be done with The Castle on Silver Lake Bed and Breakfast. Because of its historical value and the monument, it has come to honor all the local craftsmen who built it.
Finally, the Castle was split into two halves. One partner took the main building and the other took the back lot and the Whittlers Club. The Castle Courtyard Villas were built on the back lot and the innkeepers at The Castle on Silver Lake manage those properties. You can see more information here. The Whittler's Club is now a private residence. We are proud of the work done and know you will find The Castle on Silver Lake a pleasant place to spend your visit on Ocracoke.

Trip Cancellation Insurance is highly recommended. This insurance is available to cover hurricane evacuations. According to NC law, if trip insurance is offered and you decline it, you waive your right to a refund in the event of an evacuation. The insurance may also cover some illnesses or a death in the family that would keep you from coming. Trip insurance is currently 6.9% of your rent plus taxes and is well worth the premium. It will be a line item on your rental agreement. Once it is paid it is non-refundable as it has been paid to the insurance carrier and your protection is in place. If you do not want the trip insurance you must sign to decline it. Trip insurance may not be purchased once the reservation is paid in full. For more information about this insurance, click here.
Cancellation Policy: If you must cancel your reservation after making payment, we will do our best to re-rent your vacation period to another party. If re-rented at the full rental rate, your rental monies will be refunded. You may be subject to a $50 cancellation fee. If the property is not re-rented, all monies paid will be forfeited. If re-rented at a lower rate, any monies is excess of the original rental rate will be refunded. Trip cancellation insurance is non-refundable as it is paid to the carrier immediately upon receipt.
